Jezero Greenhouse Cooperative Sends First Herb Shipment to Areopolis Kitchens
A small agricultural surplus from Jezero is moving through Mars’ internal trade network, a modest sign of maturing settlement life.

Jezero’s greenhouse cooperative shipped its first commercial batch of fresh herbs to kitchens in Areopolis, using insulated cargo lockers on a scheduled rover convoy. The consignment is small, but settlement administrators described it as a practical milestone for a town that until recently focused almost entirely on medical reliability and habitat expansion.
Mars’ registered population now stands at 9,502, large enough to support limited internal trade but still small enough that each shipment is planned carefully around power, crew time and vehicle maintenance. The herbs were grown in layered hydroponic racks under glass, using water recovered from habitat systems and nutrient salts imported on the spring cargo window.
Chefs in Areopolis said the shipment will not displace staple concentrates, but it will change menus for a few days and give growers feedback on varieties that travel well. The cooperative plans to test leafy greens next, though managers stressed that emergency reserves and clinic supplies remain the priority.
